Gen. Aronda addresses House of Bishops about the National ID project, gives testimony, “I am only a child of God fulfilling His will”
The National Coordinator of the National Identity Card Project has re-echoed the importance of the National Identity Card as an invaluable tool that will ease the development and planning of the country.
Gen Aronda was this afternoon addressing the House of Bishops’ meeting on the progress of the project so far. The House of Bishops brings together Bishops of the Anglican Faith, currently under the leadership of His Grace Arch-Bishop Stanley Ntagali. Aronda appealed to the Clergy to fully support the upcoming Mass Enrolment Exercise that is non discriminative.
Gen Aronda also expressed gratitude to the Clerics for their involvement in the various developmental projects the Church is spearheading. In particular he singled out their role against insurgencies, the open fight against HIV-AIDS and their fearless and strong opposition against homosexuality.
In their response through Bishop Sheldom Mwesigwa, the Bishops applauded Gen Aronda’s leadership, thanking God for his foundation in faith and promised to convince the people, and spread the good news about the mass enrolment exercise. “We will get theology verses that support registration for the National Identity Card. We are ready and willing to partner with Government on this right cause,” Bishop Sheldom remarked.
In his testimony, Gen Aronda said his faith is strengthened in the lessons gained at an early age; “to Love God, to seek and know Him always” a thing that elated bishops rendering their support enthusiastically. He reiterated that experience to handle challenges to organize people for registration will be borrowed from the previous events we have held as a country to deliver the National Identity Card.
Gen Aronda also highlighted the issue of citizenship calling Ugandans to be on the watch out in identifying people during the mass enrollment exercise.
The meeting was part of the sensitization meetings the National ID Coordinator is continuously holding with different individuals, groups of people and Associations to raise awareness about registration for the Mass enrollment exercise where citizens aged 16 years and above will register for their Identity Cards.
